2022 EMCC Global mentoring award winners

Each year, EMCC Global launches its nominations for the year’s award winners.

There are four awards given annually under the categories, Coaching, Mentoring, Supervision & Team Coaching. EMCC Global awards are open to everyone. You do not have to be a member of EMCC to receive an award.

Within each award (mentoring, coaching, supervision, team coaching) there are
six categories that are considered:

  1. A coach, mentor, supervisor or team coach

  2. An organisation

  3. A training programme

  4. A contribution (e.g. book, article, research)

  5. A champion of coaching, mentoring, or supervision

A panel of judges, chaired by the EMCC Global President consider the impact and contribution to the mentoring / coaching / supervision and team coaching industry; the inspirational contribution of the nominee and the social impact, aligning with EMCC’s purpose:
 

“Existing to develop, promote, and set the expectation of best practice in coaching, mentoring, supervision and team coaching globally for the benefit of society”


All award winners receive a ‘banner’ stating they have won the award which they can use in their marketing material e.g. email signature, website etc.

Fisher YU is an EMBA from CEIBS, who has 14 years of experience in mentoring, and was the 1st person to introduce professional mentoring into China market. He is now the EMCC China president, an EMCC accredited Senior Practitioner. He has launched the EMCC 100 webinars projects by inviting global experts and key opinion leaders to promote mentoring, coaching and supervision across the world, and had delivered 40% of them as of early April 2023.   Fisher is one of the founder partners of MentoringCo, headquartered in Brussels, Belgium, with country partners in 41 countries, a corporate mentoring service provider for top performing companies. MentoringCo is a global brand in corporate mentoring and organizational tacit knowledge management training and consulting with over 600 professional experts to serve our clients worldwide.

He has made great contribution in integrating tacit knowledge management into corporate mentoring, which has proven to be very useful and successful. He is also a co-author of the book “Mentoring with Coaching Attitude” (to be published by Open University Press of McGraw Hill in June 2023)
 
Along with his journey, he has benefited from quite a few good mentors in his life. He is 52 years old now, and he said “I have prepared my first 50-years experiences for my second 50-years in mentoring!”

The EMCC Global awards selection panel recognised Fisher for his dedication to promoting Mentoring and supervision in China, Fisher is recognised for his knowledge, skills and leadership with this award. The engagement around the EMCC 100 Webinar series and their significant reach surpassed expectations and serves as a beacon of light evolving the mentoring culture in China..  

On receiving news of the award, Fisher said “I’m very surprised to be nominated and very honoured to receive this award. If you keep on doing something valuable, people will remember you any how”.

Future Leaders Fellows Dev Network

The Future Leaders Fellows Development Network is a UKRI funded, UK-wide programme providing leadership and career development opportunities to nearly 600 Future Leaders Fellows (FLFs) and UKRI-nominated Early Career Researchers. Led by Sara Shinton, Director Future Leaders Fellows Development Network, our team comprises core partners from nine industry and higher education institutions (University of Edinburgh, Cardiff University, Queen’s University Belfast, University of Leeds, School of Advanced Study University of London, Vertical Future, University of Cambridge, University of Glasgow, University College London) along with additional external partners who support the delivery of our Network’s activities.  We recognise that Future Leaders Fellows are at the forefront of culture change within the research and innovation sectors. Offering a four-strand mentoring programme, as part of the community and cohort experience for Fellows, allows people to engage in mentoring in ways that suit them – with peers, international mentors, and values-based matching. We intend to continue to improve the mentoring programme, providing support to mentors and mentees in the form of professional development in 2023 and 2024, and sharing best practice with other schemes.

 

 Dr Kay Guccione is Head of Researcher Development at the University of Glasgow and an experienced mentoring consultant. She specialises in mentoring for academic leadership and research career development and is a master’s qualified accredited coach and mentor, and a National Teaching Fellow. As Mentoring Specialist, Kay has drawn on her experience and research in this area to design the Future Leaders Fellows Network’s suite of mentoring programmes. 

Charlotte Bonner-Evans combines knowledge and practice (as an ILM practicing coach and mentor) with her desire to support others to develop and grow through mentoring, leadership, and training. Based at Cardiff University, Charlotte works with mentees and mentors daily, and mentors colleagues in Higher Education across the UK and for the Association of University Administrators (AUA). 

The EMCC Global awards selection panel recognised that the innovative and needs-focussed approach of the mentoring programme stood out as a key factor in the success of the programme. The programme offers a range of innovative methods to suit the individuals, putting the needs of the people at the centre and introducing flexibility to the mentoring relationships. 

 

On receiving news of the award, Charlotte and Kay said “It’s been a privilege to have created the conditions for mentoring which has led to our mentees feeling strongly that they’ve had the best support to develop their leadership practice in context. The level of enthusiasm for this programme has been its own reward, and winning the EMCC award is the icing on the cake!  We are so pleased we have won this award - none of this would be possible without the commitment of over 150 Leadership Mentors, who provide their time and experience to support the growth of Fellows and Early Career Researchers.”

Cathy Cribben-Pearse

Cathy Cribben-Pearse has over 25 years of nursing and midwifery experience and is also an experienced coach and mentor. She has held healthcare leadership positions in the NHS UK, The Mater Private Hospital Ireland, and the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi UAE. Her experience in healthcare startups has given her a deep understanding of the behaviours that drive and sustain high performance, particularly with respect to advocating for and delivering impactful change and best practices for high-quality patient care.  Cathy currently runs an international coaching business, coaching healthcare professionals to achieve their goals. Her coaching, mentoring, and nursing leadership experience have led her to launch "OakTree Mentoring" an International Mentorship Program for nurses and midwives worldwide,  accredited by the EMCC. The pandemic highlighted the unprecedented impact on patients, nurses, and midwives, seeing first-hand that nurses were looking for direction, guidance, support, and mentorship, OakTree Mentoring was established to provide this much-needed support.

The EMCC Global awards selection panel recognised that Oak tree mentoring has identified a real gap in the healthcare and nursing and midwifery professions in providing support, sharing and leadership across borders. It is innovative in its vision for global connection and the volume of participants evidences its impact and value.

On receiving news of the award Cathy said I am truly honoured to accept this award on behalf of OakTree Mentoring. This recognition is not only an acknowledgement of our hard work, but also a testament to the significance of mentorship in healthcare, and the transformative power of connection.

At OakTree Mentoring, we are committed to connecting nurses and midwives globally, to inspire and empower them to make a positive impact in their communities. Our program has reached hundreds of professionals across the world, and we are constantly growing.

Dr Anna Blackman and Ms Kylie Ellwood are the founders of Talent Insight Solutions based in Australia. Anna is a former Associate Professor of Business at James Cook University (JCU) whose areas of expertise include Business and Executive Coaching, Human Resource Management, Business Management, Rural and Regional Leadership and Technology for Innovative Teaching. Skilled in E-Learning, Career Development, Coaching, Data Analysis, and Research Design she has over 40 academic and practitioner research outputs. She is a founding member of the EMCC Asia Pacific Region executive committee. Kylie has 20 years' experience in corporate and small business management, account management, strategic visioning, small business systems, tools and processes, coaching, training and development.  Her areas of expertise include Individual, Business and Executive Coaching and Mentoring, Corporate Training design and delivery, Human Behaviour, Emotional Intelligence, Customer Service, Sales, Leadership Training and Start-up Business Strategy.  Their passion is working with individuals and teams to provide insight into the connection to self. Understanding, educating and adapting emotions and behaviours to enhance recruitment, engagement, retention and growth.  They work with organisations utilising a range of tools to provide real time insights and data to identify gaps, map training requirements, training design and delivery aligned with the corporate strategy. The Successful Mentoring for Growth and Becoming a Successful Mentoring programs delivered across the Pacific for the past 2 years have had a wide impact, not just for participants but for their communities but across the region. 

Their vision is to be an inspiration for women in business. Game changers for entrepreneurs and leaders and educators for change. Their mission is to bring together leaders of various models of learning to deliver and empower individuals and organisations through training, coaching and mentoring.

The EMCC Global awards panel felt that the programme embeds sustainability and long-term impact with supports mentees to develop the skills and confidence to become future mentors for other women leaders within their communities.

On receiving news of the award Anna and Kylie said “We are delighted and thrilled to hear that we have won an EMCC global award for mentoring. This project is dear to our hearts and had such an impact on us as coaches, mentors and business women.  We are especially grateful to the International Centre for Democratic Partnerships – Pacific Connect Community who have supported and encouraged us on this journey and committed to the program. This award continues to motivate us to grow the mentoring culture across our Pacific network of hub coordinators. Thank you EMCC for internationally recognising this program – we are truly grateful.”
